About Us

Founded in January 1985 by Officer Kelvin Helmick #174, the Chandler Police Explorer Program has shaped the future of countless young adults. Over the years, it has served as a launching pad for careers in law enforcement and beyond, producing police officers, supervisors, civilian specialists, dispatchers, and professionals across various fields.
In 1998, the Chandler Police Department launched TacComp (Tactical Competition), an elite law enforcement skills competition designed to challenge and prepare police cadets for real-world scenarios. What started as a local event quickly gained national recognition, attracting cadet teams from across the country. TacComp tests participants in high-intensity tactical scenarios, critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership under pressure. Over the years, it has become a premier event, fostering excellence in the next generation of law enforcement professionals.
The Chandler Police Cadet Program is home to a diverse group of young individuals, each bringing unique backgrounds, experiences, and aspirations. Our cadets come from different schools, neighborhoods, and family dynamics, yet they share a common passion for service, leadership, and personal growth. Some aspire to have careers in law enforcement or the military, while others aim for roles in criminal justice, emergency services, or public service. Regardless of their path, the program equips them with discipline, teamwork, and the skills needed to succeed in any field they choose.
